Reid wanted me to rant about something

Posted by Johnny

He even found a topic for me:

US state tightens abortion laws. In particular, the state of South Dakota has made abortions pretty much illegal. The only exception is in the case that the woman's life would be in danger by having the baby. They won't even do it if the baby was a result of rape or incest.

This is fucking huge. The term "Land of the Free" has really become less and less accurate over the last 6 years, and if this new law in South Dakota is any indication, it is only going to get worse.

I mean, who is the government to take away a woman's right to choose. If a woman gets knocked up and doesn't believe in abortion, then she won't get one. But if that woman has good reason to have an abortion (ie: rape, incest, or just simply wouldn't be able to care for the child) then it's her choice.

Why does the US government feel they need to take control of its people's bodies? The government should be there to protect and support its people, not to impose invasive values on them.

But then again, this is the heartland of America we're talking about. Perhaps this is what the majority of the population wants. After all, they elected President Idiot based on his stance on gay marriage and completely ignored the giant fuck up that is Iraq.

This is the conclusion that I've been coming to over the last couple years: the US is not the beacon of independence and liberty that it used to be (if it ever was one). It is slowly going to spiral itself back into the middle ages to join many of the Islamic nations that it will eventually war with.

On its current course, the US will give up its superpower status in favour of a dogmatic lifestyle shared by all. They will cut themselves off from the rest of the world and live their happy little isolationist lives, choosing not to remember the empire they used to have. As long as God blesses America, who cares about what's going on in the real world?

What a fucking joke this is! If the Supreme Court does not shut this down when the time comes, it will be a sad day to be a woman in the US. The GOP will have sent them back to the Grand Ol’ Times where women are possessions, and not people. I thought we were trying to modernize the arab world by invading them, but shit – you do stuff like this and you wonder if that is even your reason.

Quick, they have WMD. Oh shit, they didn’t. QUICK, it’s because they are living in the past. Oh shit, we are caught living in the past too. Just admit it people – you have no fucking clue. I can’t imagine that George Bush “prayed” before running this term. Unless God wanted to fuck the world up even more.

Speaking of which, aren’t the End Times upon us? (They have been since 2000 years ago, btw). Maybe this was a part of God’s plan to bring an end to the world – by having us blow the shit out each other…over what? I hope it isn’t oil. Especially after Bush’s speech about “America is Addicted to Oil”. NO FUCKING SHIT SHERLOCK. Who the fuck put this man in charge? Oh yeah, the American people. And why? Was it so their conservative agendas could be forwarded at the expense of thousands or Iraqi lives?

The south demons (Dakotans), yes, I called them demons, figure with the addition of a couple of conservative judges (thanks to W.) that they will be able to pass and keep this abortion law. I hope they are able to deal with 800 more unwanted children per year. At $120, 000 per child, that’s $100, 000, 000 per year extra that needs to help fund those children – shitty deal. Not to mention shit like this will surface:

http://mollysavestheday.blogspot.com/2006/02/for-women-of-south-dakota-abortion.html

I don’t think I need to go into detail of how dangerous this is. To perform an abortion at home opens up more risks than it is worth, and the fact that this has surfaced is a sad state for medicine to be in. Especially when drugs like Mifepristone are available and good for up to 9 weeks into pregnancy.

The big question: Is abortion wrong? Hell no! Why the fuck do people get hung up on this? It is NOT hard. You give birth to a child, and look it in the eyes, and it is wonderful. At this point in its life, it is more useless than a dog. That may sound mean, but my dog can sit, and eat, and know to take a shit outside. I child that was just born has no clue; it shits in its mother. Now, the dog is more aware of what is going on in its life, and is more conscious of the pain and yet we will put a dog down without going to court. So what’s the big deal if I kill a new born? Most people feel it is wrong, even I do, even though I can’t explain a reason for it. Where this changes is the fact that an abortion does not involve a child.

Look at your hand. When was the last time you scraped off some skin? That skin contains EXACTLY the same information as fetus – DNA. The DNA between cells does not change (simply the frequency of expression of genes defines differentiation), so why not thing twice before scraping a couple cells off your hand, and yet spend millions in court over some cells being “scraped” off a uterus? Is it because you think it might be something one day? Many dogs that are put down that have the ability to perform outstanding tasks, and the cells on your hands allow you to perform many detailed tasks each day, so this cannot be the answer. I think the answer lies within a “soul”

Straight up – I don’t think that a soul exists in the sense of the modern word. By looking at the derivation of the words, I think there will be satisfactory evidence. Some people believe abortion is wrong because the soul enters the child at conception.

First, the word that translates to “soul” is Animus, which can also be translated to “the spiritual or rational principle of life in man”, which somewhat fits “soul”. Generally (in classical latin), Animus is translated as “the man”. This comes from the word anima (which is where we derive animal), which means “breath , wind, air”. Using these definitions, an animal requires breath to be an animal (makes sense), and a soul requires breath. Using the translation of “soul” in the bible would mean that something has breath (it also means that all animals have souls, so they should go to heaven), which is somewhat different from the new, skewed definition. Using the latin, we know that the “soul” enters the body with its first breath, of which a fetus does not have until it is actually birthed. It is also easy to see how the ancients would think that a fetus would have breath, even though we now know it doesn’t.

This simple argument shows how there is no need to oppose abortion, whether religious or emotional. The fact of the matter is that our world would suck just a little bit more without abortion. Honestly, I think we already have enough suck to go around.

Dude, thank you for adding the scientific AND etymological basis for my argument. That was killer.

And that DIY abortion thing was crazy! I would be so afraid to try anything like that.

But those instructions demonstrate an interesting point: If enough people want to do something that they believe is just, they will find a way to do it that gets around the unjust (to them) laws that their governments have set up.

Take as a parallel the music sharing issue. First there was Napster, which they shut down. Then there was Morpheus, which they shut down. Then there was Kazaa, which they shut down.

Now what is there? A fully distributed system of loose p2p systems like BitTorrent and semi-distributed systems like eMule that are much harder to control. These systems are not nearly as efficient as their predecessors, but they're just as widespread and "damaging" to the music and movie industries.

So getting back to abortion, there will always be a demand for it, like music. The technology is available and it can help a great deal of people, so why ban it? To protect a dated ideology held by the few who have power/money. Just like the RIAA.

I was motivated to post this after seeing your comment:

I fucking hate the RIAA.

Oh yeah, cool call with that stuff, linking RIAA to bitches, just like abortion.

No joke, this has taken me 5 minutes to type. So manny errors, have needed correction.

I bet that was after your 10th shot of Rhum and 7th beer. Hence the corrections.
